Bersih 5 is not a 'people's revolution' - Kedah UMNO Youth

Its chief, Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said, neither issues nor changes had surfaced since the rally was held with the intention to topple the government by staging undemocratic street demonstrations.

“The fact remains that it is business as usual for our government and Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to gain the people's trust.

“Don’t view the demo as a ‘people's revolution’ as some quarters had assumed but more like a ‘festival’ for opposition parties,” he said when contacted Astro AWANI here today.

Prior to this, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had classified Bersih 5 as illegal for its failure to abide to provision under the Peaceful Assembly Act (APA) 2012.\

Shaiful said Bersih does not represent a majority of the people.

“We are confident and believe, more and more people will reject the street demonstrations such as Bersih.

“We also urge the party machinery to focus on efforts to render its services to rakyat and at the same time, honour the ‘Aku Janji’ pledge made during the last General Election.

“We constantly keep to our promise to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah during the Kedah UMNO Convention that is the blueprint and clear guidelines for the party machinery to move forward,” he explained.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed does not rule out the possibility that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be called by the police for participating in the Bersih 5 rally on Saturday.

The police released 10 people who were arrested last Friday over the Bersih 5 and Red Shirts illegal rallies.
