Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed does not rule out the possibility that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be called by the police for participating in the Bersih 5 rally yesterday.
He said, if the former prime minister's presence, together with his friends, had contributed to the number of Bersih 5 participants, police would not hesitate to call or detain him.
"In the case of Dr Mahathir, we respect him as a national statesman leader, but if he exceeded the limit we have to take action.
"I do not rule out the possibility (called by the police). He actually wants us to arrest him. But we will not fall into his trap," he told reporters after visiting the Rantau Panjang Immigration, Customs, Quarantine Complex here today.
Nur Jazlan also said there is a possibility that more people will be called by the police for participating in the Bersih 5 rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
He also explained about the detention of Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA).
"SOSMA is actually a law which facilitates the implementation of existing laws. It cannot charge a person, it facilitates the way to catch people, and then we will charge the person in court," he said.
The police also, he added, was investigating the possibility that Bersih 5 had received foreign funding.
