Bersih 5 vs Himpunan Merah 2: Public mass confrontation is bad for Malaysia

With regards to news reports on Himpunan Merah 2, where the organiser Datuk Jamal Yunos claims that this round, 40 percent of those attending will consist of Malaysian Chinese, the MCA Religious Harmony Bureau stresses that our party, MCA believes in peaceful harmonious engagement towards resolving issues and allowing the rule of law prevail.

We believe in and respect the Parliamentary system and the electoral process.

There is no necessity to mobilise mass demonstration or a show of strength in a "brutish" or "jungle-like manner".

Any attempt to disrupt public peace and harmony is strictly a "No-No."

We have seen changes to the leadership and even state governments via the ballot box.

Our democratic and parliamentary system is intact.

There is no necessity to create any ruckus or public chaos at this very moment.

Our energy and resources should be channelled towards overcoming the global economic slowdown etc

A show of force or a public mass confrontation at this juncture will not augur well for the nation.

Problems or issues will not be resolved by mass demonstration and may even be aggravated.

Instead of resolving problems, mass confrontation will lead to social, economic or political unrest and ultimately anarchy if we lose control of the situation.
