Best Dressed at the MTV Movie Awards
Before the famed golden popcorn was handed out to some of the year’s biggest stars in film (spoiler alert: Shailene Woodley received top honours with four wins), everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Cara Delevingne hit the MTV Movie Awards red blue carpet in style.
Award ceremony red carpets bring to mind a bit of decorum and sophisticated gowns. But, you wouldn't have found any of that on the MTV Movie Awards red carpet. Instead, the attendees got a different kind of memo, one that says, “Just Be You!” Celebrity glamour was out in full force on the blue carpet but no two stars went the same style direction for the occasion, which means picking a best dressed is not an easy undertaking.
Rebel Wilson was our idol when she channelled her inner Victoria's Secret model on stage, but for her arrival she chose a sartorially fearless caped LBD and bright pink pumps. Not to be outdone, Jennifer Lopez played to her signature sexy bravura in a belted blazer and miniskirt, which flaunted her renowned curves. Jessie J chose to host the pre-show in a pair of shimmering pyjamas. Meanwhile, Bella Thorne and Cara Delevingne arrived ready to party in stunning mini dresses. The evening didn't exactly seem to follow a precise dress code, but the daring and sometimes straight-up curious interpretations were what earned the highest marks.
So who wore some of the best outfits to arguably the coolest award show of 2015?
We would say Cara Delevingne is most happy in onesies, loose tee, skinny jeans, and sneakers. But, the model and Paper Towns actress sure cleans up fabulously! She toughened up this purple romantic, sheer Reem Acra dress with sexy Saint Laurent sandals and a slim, black belt.
Life is unfair! Why we’re not all Jennifer Lopez is something that we’re going to just have to accept. This belted blazer-style Versus Versace dress is one of the best things we’ve ever seen JLo wear. Between that high hemline, all that statement gold jewellery, and those pencil-thin Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, Lopez is bringng the va-va-voom to the red carpet!
Teen Wolf‘s Holland Roden looked amazing, from her collared Caterina Gatta dress, to her blue shoes, which matched the carpet seamlessly. Those sleeves are such a unqiue shape—slayyyy, Holland, slay!
A glittering leisure ensemble sounds like something you might wear to your 40th high school gathering, but there are certain people in the world that can make anything look up-to-date. Jessie J is one of those special magical creatures, and her loose-fitting tux is reminiscent of Barbra Streisand and many other glorious divas who know the power of a lot of sparkle.
Pink and red is quickly becoming one of the most impactful colour combinations on the red carpet (Emma Stone’s Thakoon dress 2014 Met Ball is another stand-out specimen). It’s flattering and ladylike and it looks so good even if it feels slightly wrong with the colours clashing. Brittany Snow’s colourblocked Brandon Sun dress is lovely and matched exquisitely with a pair of spotted Jerome Rousseau sandals and a gold Lee Savage box clutch.
Scarlett Johansson was one of the few attendees who braved a jumpsuit (think of the toilet breaks). She accessorized with a teal clutch and matching vibrant shoes and, um, one of the best pixie cuts we’ve seen this season! The Avengers star absolutely astounded in a rose-coloured laser-cut Zuhair Murad jumpsuit and that aqua clutch is to-die-for.
Willow Shields is ONLY 14 years old. But, you might have not guessed that in this Bibhu Mohapatra look. The silhouette is a bit more refined than anything that we might have worn at the same age, but the pattern is really sweet (but not juvenile); making it a great, bold option for her. Plus, we love her pared-down approach to accessorizing, which didn’t clash with her statement print.
Anna’s Pitch Perfect 2 co-star Hailee Steinfeld decided on a darker palette but pulled off her netted Rodarte skirt and sheer top impeccably. The actress unfailingly takes big sartorial risks just for the sake of wearing some of the runway’s most fashion-forward looks. This head-to-toe Rodarte look was one of the best looks from the past season. It’s the adult version of The Little Mermaid, and we think Steinfeld looks absolutely whimsical and stunning in fishnet. Hook, line and sinker!
