The remains of Miri PKR branch secretary Bill Kayong who was gunned down at a traffic light junction in Lutong at about 8.30am yesterday will be buried on Friday.
Persatuan Dayak Sarawak (Pedas) president Capt Collin Imran Abdullah said Kayong's remains would be buried at the Batu 1 Muslim Cemetery after the Friday prayers.
"Memorial services will go on according to the Iban tradition for two nights before the burial," he told Bernama.
Bill Kayong, 43, an advocate of social issues who contested in the recent Sarawak Election as the PKR candidate in Bekenu, was shot dead at a traffic light junction in broad daylight at the Kuala Baram bypass while driving a Toyota Hilux pickup.
Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embah who offered his condolences to the family of the deceased urged police to carry out a thorough investigation.
"Police have set up a special task force to investigate the case," he said in a statement today.
Another Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing who was on a working visit to Miri today also shared a similar sentiment as the incident had affected the image of the Miri City and hoped those responsible can be arrested as soon as possible.
"I will be visiting the family of the deceased this afternoon to pay my last respects," he said.
Sarawak CID chief SAC Dev Kumar M. M. Sree Shunmugam said a team of Bukit Aman Forensic Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) will arrive here today to reprocess the crime scene and victim's vehicle.
"Sadly though no witness of the shooting has come forward to shed some light. We are once again appealing to road users who were at the scene to contact us at the Miri IPD ops Room by calling 085-433730 and 085-433400," he said in a statement.
