The Prevention of Crime (Amendment) Bill 2017 was tabled for first reading in the Dewan Rakyat today, which among others, proposed to include damaging and losing electronic monitoring devices (EMDs) as an offence.

It also proposed for the act of damaging or losing all other devices used in relation to the operation of the EMD to be considered an offence, besides authorising the court to impose a jail sentence on someone who failed to pay a fine for the damage or loss of the EMD and any other device used in relation to its operation.

The Bill, tabled by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, also proposed to allow members of the Crime Prevention Board to be re-elected for any number of times.

At present, members of the board can only be re-elected once, for a term of three years.
