KUALA LUMPUR: Member of Parliament (MP) for Padang Rengas, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, has assured that all UMNO MPs except Gua Musang MP, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, will support the Supply (Budget) Bill 2021 at its third reading in the Dewan Rakyat.
He said the government needs to spend to help the people and also fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We cannot reject this Budget as it will affect spending to help the people and the government's efforts against COVID-19.
"It is our commitment to the people, not because we support the current Prime Minister," he told Astro AWANI.
Besides Nazri, Pontian MP, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, assured that he too will support the third reading of the 2021 Budget.
He explained through his Twitter account that the Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, has also performed his duties well.
“Will I vote for Budget 2021 in the Dewan Rakyat? The answer is 'yes'. I support this 2021 Budget and will vote for it to be passed.
“The Minister of Finance has done his job well. About the EPF and the moratorium, they can still be negotiated with the relevant parties if there are difficult conditions," he said.
The third reading of the 2021 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat became the focus following rumours that it would be thwarted by the opposition bloc with the cooperation of several government MPs.
Pakatan Harapan (PH), in a media statement on Monday, decided to reject the 2021 Budget in the third round of voting in the Dewan Rakyat scheduled today.
The coalition also urged all MPs from the opposition and the government to also reject the 2021 Budget.
