Blood trace lifted from evidence matches Nazrin Hassan's DNA - Chemist

SHAH ALAM: The High Court here today was told that the trace of blood found on a fragment of a board, matched the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) profile of blood specimen ‘A’ on the Fast Track Analysis (FTA) card labelled ‘Nazrin bin Hassan’.

S. Jayasilan, 42, who is a chemist at the Department of Chemistry, told the court the trace of blood on the case exhibit tagged ‘MN9’ matched the DNA profile of blood specimen ‘A’.

The 43rd prosecutor witness said a male DNA profile was obtained from the blood trace on the evidence that matched with the DNA profile of blood specimen ‘A’, adding that the analysis was conducted after he received the exhibit from a police officer in Sept 2018.

"This shows that the DNA that has been identified is from the same source (blood trace from specimen 'A')," he said when reading a witness statement before Judge Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman.

Jayasilan was testifying at the trial of Samirah Muzaffar, 46, a former senior executive, and two teenagers, now aged 19 and 16, as well as an Indonesian woman, Eka Wahyu Lestari, who is still at large.

They are all charged with murdering Nazrin at a house in Mutiara Damansara, between 11.30 pm on June 13, 2018, and 4 am the following day.

Jayasilan said besides the 'MN9' exhibit, there were four other exhibits, namely cotton buds tagged 'J3', 'J4', 'J8' and 'J14' that had blood traces on them and had been found to match the DNA profile of the blood specimen labelled ‘Nazrin bin Hassan’.

The trial continues tomorrow.
