BN reps stage walkout at Penang state assembly
All 10 Barisan Nasional assemblymen reportedly staged a walkout at the Penang state assembly today following a heated debate on the 2014 Budget.
The walkout was led by Penang Opposition Leader, Teluk Air Tawar rep Datuk Jahara Hamid (pic), according news reports.
Jahara apparently got into a shouting match with several DAP assemblymen when she raised a few controversial issues.
"I am sick and bored of the attitude of this assembly," Jahara said before walking out of the proceedings, according to a report in The Star Online.
She claimed that the walkout was necessary as it had became impossible for her to talk after being repeatedly interrupted.
"I'm not given a fair chance to talk. My every sentence was met with objections. It seems like the DAP can't accept questions and criticism," she said.
Earlier, Jahara had implied that the Penang state authorities were targeting Bumiputera traders after it demolished two Malay food stalls that have been operating for over 20 years.
She claimed that the local council only issued a compound per year to the four Chinese seafood restaurants in Butterworth even though these eateries were built on state land without permission.
According to a Malaysiakini report, Jahara also said developers needed to obtain 'green lights' from MPs or state assemblymen for their project to take off.
Both these remarks drew the ire of Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N Rayer and Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Boon Poh, who both demanded her to retract her statements.
The Penang state assembly was debating the 2014 Budget that was presented by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on Nov 28.
