The body of a baby girl was found in a washing machine at a house in Kampung Bukit Lakota, Jeli, Friday, police said.

Jeli Police chief DSP Mohd Yusoff Jaafar said police found the body at 2.55 am after a 23-year-old woman confessed at the Jeli Hospital that she had given birth to a baby and placed the infant in the washing machine thinking that it was dead.

He said the woman was sent to the Tanah Merah Hospital for further treatment.
