The Fire and Rescue department have recovered the body of a teenage girl, who is believed to have drowned after falling into Sungai Kesom, in Kampung Kesom Che Nordin, Manir, Kuala Terengganu.
Rescue personnel recovered the body of Nor Atikah Baharuddin, 14, at the bottom of the river around 12.40pm today with the help of residents.
“The victim was found at the bottom of the river, about three metres from where she is believed to have drowned,” the Fire Department said in its Twitter post.
It added, the victim had been trying to cross the river together with three of her relatives, when she slipped before falling into the river.
“Her relatives had tried to save the victim but failed. Two of them nearly drowned but were saved by residents,” the Fire Department said.
The victim had been handed over to the police for further action.
