SIBU: The body of a man who reportedly fell into a river in Ulu Naha, Bakun Hydroelectric Dam, Belaga, about 464 kilometers from here, on Tuesday, was found at about 9.40 last night.

A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesperson said the villagers identified the man as Heli Nyalong, 36, from Block P, Uma Bakah, Sungai Asap Belaga resettlement scheme who was reported missing since Tuesday after falling into the dam lake.

"At 11.30 pm yesterday, the operation centre received a call from the Fire Operations Commander at the location informing that the victim's body was found at 9.40 pm by the villagers, five metres from the location where the victim reportedly fell," he said in a statement today.

He said the victim's body was then taken to a nearby longhouse while waiting to be taken to the Nyabau Hospital, Bintulu today for a post-mortem before being handed back to his family for burial.

According to him, the Belaga Fire and Rescue Station received a call about the incident at 3.15 pm on Tuesday and then the team travelled by boat, for four hours, to the scene.
