Bomb hoax, car torched at Malacca UTC building

A car parked at the Malacca Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here was splashed with petrol and torched Monday night, at the same time that a bomb hoax was raised.

Malacca police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said, the fuel tank and the front of the car were damaged while a piece of paper with a note containing a bomb threat was found on an adjacent car.

A cleaner at the building spotted the fire and alerted a UTC building guard who doused the fire with an extinguisher, he told reporters.

Chuah said the closed-circuit television camera footage showed the image of a man wandering in the area at 10.45pm, just before the fire took place.

He said the police inspected the UTC building with the aid of a nine-man bomb detection unit until 3.30am but found no bomb.
