An eight-year-old boy drowned after falling into a swollen ditch in Jalan Lembaga Elektrik at 3.45pm Friday.

A Sabah Fire and Rescue spokesman said the body of Mohd Haikal Matlan was recovered by locals about 60 metres from where he had fallen.

He said the boy was playing by the ditch when he slipped and fell into it.
