Boy drowns while fishing in monsoon drain

A Year One pupil of a primary religious school in Selangor was found drowned in a monsoon drain in Parit Ali Kalang near Teluk Medan here yesterday, police said today.
Adam Ibrahim of Taman Puchong Prima, Puchong, Selangor, was found dead by passers-by at 5.45 pm, said Kerian Police chief Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob.
He said Adam, a pupil of Sekolah Rendah Islam Integrasi Pintar El Khawarizmi in Puchong, had come with his parents to visit his grandparents during the school holidays.
Omar Bakhtiar said a man reported having seen Adam catching fish in the drain in front of his grandparents' house at about 5 pm.
"Later, the boy''s slippers and a fishing tackle were found floating in the drain. Adam was found at the bottom of the drain. He was rushed to the Teluk Medan health clinic but was confirmed dead," he said.
Omar Bakhtiar said the body was sent to the Parit Buntar Hospital, and the case was classified as drowning.
