Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today described the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia, or BR1M, as a big mistake made by the government.
Speaking at the Global Leadership Series Forum in Cyberjaya on Saturday, Dr Mahathir said, "the government feels if that if you give money to the people, they will support you … this is wrong.
"Giving BR1M is wrong and it is a big mistake made by the government," said the veteran politician.

Dr Mahathir also said if the government started giving money to the people, they would depend on the government and turn materialistic. This action will negatively affect the ruling government.
