88-year-old record shattered with the help of a Bentley Continental GT. By Chris Ng

Firstly, allow us to apologize for the horrible headline, we really couldn’t help ourselves. Still, let it not distract you from the main focus of this piece – the 88-year-old ‘Flying Mile’ UK landspeed record has been broken by Idris Elba with a Bentley Continental GT.

The record was set in 1927, by Sir Malcolm Campbell in his legendary Napier-Campbell Blue Bird. It is amazing that his record stood so long.

Idris Elba, known for his performances in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and as Heimdall in the Thor movies, was behind the wheel of the 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 Continental GT when he set the new record on Pendine Sands, Wales. The actor achieved a top speed of 180.361mph despite challenging tidal conditions on the beach of South Wales. The record was broken during the filming of a four-part Discovery Channel series, Idris Elba: No Limits.
