A British man died and a female teacher was badly injured when the car they were travelling in crashed in the Smart Tunnel here Sunday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Legal staff officer, DSP S. Markandan said when the incident occurred at 4.50am, the two were believed to be on their way to the federal capital.
"The car in which both the victims were travelling went out of control and skidded before hitting the tunnel's wall.
"The British national, Thomas George, 22, was severely injured and died on the spot while the 25-year-old driver (female teacher) was badly hurt and was brought to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment," he said in a statement.
Markandan said the case was being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, two men died in an accident involving a three-tonne lorry and a car at KM47 of the Kuala Lumpur-Ipoh road near Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor at around 2.20 this morning.
A Hulu Selangor District Police spokesman said that during the incident, the lorry driver was said to have suddenly come out of a junction and caused the driver of a Proton Wira Aeroback to lose control of his car.
"The driver of the car who was carrying five passengers failed to control the vehicle and hit the back of the lorry before both vehicles skidded and overturned on the road shoulder.
"The driver and one of the passengers, aged 20 and 15 respectively, died on the spot whereas the four other passengers were injured and are currently being treated at the Selayang Hospital," he said when contacted.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
