The Astro AWANI Google Hangout panelists agreed with the establishment of the National Entrepreneur Development Office and Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) as a way to encourage more participation from young entrepreneurs and boost the start-up industry.
However, EYE Project co-founder Christopher Tock said that young Malaysians are still not encouraged to become entrepreneurs. Therefore, many prefer to settle for an office job in the corporate sector.
However, a representative from a local university's Centre of Entrepreneurial Development & Graduate Marketability department Rozitaayu Zulkifli said that the attitude of young Malaysians should change.
"Many want to be entrepreneurs but who dare to fail? They're still afraid. They should also be patient as it would take up to three years to generate profits," she added.
The panelists also talked about the flexible working hours scheme.
"We mothers agree with the scheme. However, I hope that the private sector will implement this. Don't just talk about it during the Budget 2014 announcement. However, productivity cannot be compromised," added Rozitaayu.
On the expansion of internet access, the panelists agreed that it's a good initiative as the internet is seen as a necessity. However, Petra Gimbad from Sabah said that she would prefer to see more structural changes such as the building of roads and better transportation system in her state before even talking about the internet.
