"We never knew Aiman was an important and great football player at school," said the mother of Muhammad Aiman Kamarul Ariffin, 12, who was found drowned in a tributary of Sungai Selangor in Kampung Timah, Bukit Beruntung, here.
Noraini Omar, 48, said her son was a humble soul and seldom shared his achievements with his family.
Since childhood, the fourth of seven siblings liked to play football and ride bicycles.
"He (Ayman) was a good child, everyone in the flat said he was good...he's never gone against anyone.
"I had no idea he was there (at the scene) with friends on that day," she told reporters at the Forensics Unit of Hospital Kuala Kubu Bharu, here, today.
Yesterday, the football team coach of SK Taman Bunga Raya 1, Wan Mohd Firdaus Wan Abdullah said Muhammad Aiman Kamarul Ariffin and his friend Muhammad Aiman Fitri Md Asmadi, 12, who also drowned in incident, were the school's two best strikers.
Meanwhile, Kamarul Ariffin Osman, 45, the father of Muhammad Aiman, said he was thankful his son's remains were found within two days of the search and rescue mission, and thanked all those involved.
"Thanks to Allah for facilitating the search today, but I was disappointed as I could not fulfill my son's wish to be circumcised during the school holidays," he said.
The body of Muhammad Aiman was found by the public at 1.15pm on the riverbank about 13km from the scene.
Earlier, at 10.20am the body of another victim, Muhammad Ikhwan Mohd Ridwan, 10, was found about three kilometres from the search and rescue (SAR) centre.
In the incident at about 5pm on Friday, eight children aged between nine and 12 were swept away by strong currents while they were fishing at the river.
One of them survived, while seven drowned.
The five other victims who died in the incident were siblings Shahrizat Abdullah, 12, and Shahrizwan, 10; Amirul Hakimi Khairul Amru, 9, Muhammad Iskandar Shah, 12, and Muhammad Aiman Fitri Md Asmadi, 12,. - BERNAMA
