KUALA LUMPUR: DAP should have placed PAS deputy president, Mohamad Sabu as Pakatan Rakyat's (PR) candidate for the upcoming Bukit Gelugor by-election, said Hishamuddin Rais.Hishamuddin said should DAP take this bold move, it will bring about a big impact to Pakatan Rakyat’s political journey especially to PAS.
“Mat Sabu should contest in Bukit Gelugor, DAP should give the opportunity to Mat Sabu as this can create an element of surprise.
“The people will be surprised, UMNO will also be surprised, the hudud issue can be put aside if DAP provide an opportunity to Mat Sabu,” said Hishamuddin during a forum entitled “GE14: Is there anymore political tsunami?” held at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), here on Monday night.
Commenting on the GE14 political tsunami, the former student leader in the 70s’ said it is just a mere illusion.
“A political tsunami is just an illusion as Pakatan Rakyat is not fighing UMNO and Barisan Nasional, but the sytem.
“The election system should be brought down if there is to be a change in government,” said Hishamuddin.
Apart from Hishamuddin, Kluang member of parliament (MP) of DAP, Liw Chin Tong was also a panellist for the forum.
Commenting on his role in the party, Chin Tong said should Pakatan Rakyat be chosen as the country’s government, DAP will not be MCA 2.0 and PAS will not replace UMNO.
“PAS’s aim is not to replace UMNO but to bring a new system for the Malaysian people.
"It also my hope, should Pakatan Rakyat win in the next general election, DAP will not become MCA 2.0. DAP needs the be a voice for the people without taking into account if they are Muslims or non-muslims,” he added.
Meanwhile another panellist, Wan Hamidi Hamid said Pakatan Rakyat’s success during GE13 was not caused by a Chinese tsunami but instead by the urban and sub-urban tsunami.
He added that Pakatan Rakyat especially DAP had failed to garner the rural vote especially the Malay votes.
“After GE13, DAP and Pakatan Rakyat remains unfocused to the efforts of gaining the rural support especially the Malay votes,” said Wan Hamidi.
