Bumiputeras can now afford to be in equity investments
Malays and other Bumiputeras can now afford to be involved in equity investments, says Member of Parliament for Johor Baharu Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
He said this followed an increase in their income which enabled them to have extra money to invest.
"Their income will go up year by year. Using a kampung calculation, in Johor Baharu itself, suraus have seen a threefold increase in collection on Fridays in the past three years. As such, with the extra income, they will decide on investments and pick the type of investments they want to venture into," he said.
He said this during a live interview with Bernama's Radio 24 through the Johor FM 107.5 channel at the Malaysia Investment and Stock Exchange Expo 2013 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, here, today.
According to Shahrir, Malays and other bumiputeras had been exposed for a long time to investments in shares such as the Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN) but still lacked a deeper understanding on investing directly in company equities.
As such, he said the expo could boost their information and knowledge on the matter.
