Bung apologises but says 'no way' to calls for him to resign

Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin today apologised for his offensive Hitler tweet, which he posted following Germany's victory in the World Cup semi-finals match over Brazil.

In a Twitter posting, Bung offered his sincerest apology for ‘unintentionally’ posting something that hurt the feelings of the people of Germany.

However, just minutes before the public apology on his Twitter page, Bung, who was pressured to resign by many quarters including the opposition for the controversial tweet, told Astro AWANI that he would not do so.

“No way. No way am I going to resign. If I resign, will the opposition win?

“I support Germany. I was excited to see Brazil being trashed by Germany.

“So, the opposition should work hard to win against me in the next general election. No way am I going to resign,” he told Astro AWANI.

Moments after Bung’s apology emerged on Twitter, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tweeted that Bung’s statement was unacceptable and wrong.

He also said that Bung’s remark does not reflect Malaysians’ view and this should be a time of celebration for Germany.
