Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) parking enforcement officer, Shazrin Hafeez Fadzlan, 26, says viral CCTV footage of him rushing to the rescue of a female snatch theft victim and wrestling the thief to the ground has brought luck to his burger stall business.
He said business has never been better since he opened his stall in Jalan Anggerik 40, Taman Johor Jaya three years ago with people eager to buy his burgers like on Wednesday night.
"I sell burgers for extra income from 7pm - 11.30pm, and usually between 60 and 70 are sold per night, but yesterday sales increased to over 200 burgers.
"I didn't expect the video to go viral so quickly on social media, but I am grateful for the public's support. I wouldn't hesitate to respond in the same way again if it helps society," Shazrin said when contacted yesterday.
The event happened around noon on Sept 1, while he was going around Jalan Austin Height 8/9 in Taman Mount Austin checking if parking had been paid.
"When I turned to see where the screams for help were coming from I saw the snatch thief falling from his motorcycle while trying to get away.
"Without giving it a lot of thought, I ran towards the thief to try and catch him. It was automatic; the risks didn't cross my mind.
"Luckily there were members of the public who came to help catch the thief as well," said Shazrin, who sustained minor injuries to his right hand in the tussle with the thief.
