A burger seller was shot on his right leg when he tried to nab two men who attempted to rob a mini market in Umbai, Merlimau, here, last night.
Malacca CID chief, ACP Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said the 30-year-old man, who had a stall outside the mini-market in Taman Bukit Tembakau, heard the wife of the mini-market owner screaming for help and saw a man rushing out of the shop at 8.15pm.
"He grabbed a piece of wood and gave chase. He managed to hit the robber who had jumped onto the back of a motorcycle of an accomplice waiting 100 metres away from the outlet, when the robber shot him on the right leg.
"The suspects escaped towards the Alor Gajah-Malacca-Jasin Highway. Earlier, the robber had also hit the woman's right ear with his pistol butt, when she sprayed his face with insect aerosol spay and screamed for help," he said here today.
However, he said the robbers left empty-handed, adding the forensics unit had yet to find the bullet casing from the scene.
The victims were sent to Melaka Hospital and were reported to be stable in condition, Raja Shahrom added.
