Burnt car found in Hutan Melintang, two days after DPP goes missing

Hilir Perak district police chief, ACP Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said investigations are underway to determine if the two incidents are related.

"On the burnt car alone, elements of crime have been noted. Whoever torched the car did have the intention to wipe something out.

"However, there were no bodies in the car, or items that can be linked back to the missing DPP. We have to wait for the forensics to determine that," he told Astro AWANI.

Mohd Shuhaily said the police would also check with several carmakers on the components of the vehicle. He said at this point, the car could be anything from a Proton Perdana to a Honda Accord.

"Due to the impact of the fire, the vehicle was completely charred and forensics couldn't identify the chassis number. So we are still trying to find other ways to identify the vehicle," he said.

The vehicle was discovered by members of the public around 10am, some three kilometres from the main road and far from residents' homes. They then alerted the police.

On the possibility that the car might have belonged to Morais, a former Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy director of prosecution who is now with the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), Mohd Shuhaily said investigations were still ongoing.

A police report had been lodged by Morais’ family members yesterday, around 7pm, after they failed to contact him.

It was reported that Morais was last seen leaving his apartment in Menara Duta for work on Friday morning, using his official government-government car bearing the registration WA 6264 Q.
