A businessman with the title "Tan Sri" is in remand for five days from today to facilitate investigation in connection with an attempt to bribe the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, for a title award.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab. Rahman following an application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The 54-year-old man was arrested when he surrendered himself at the MACC headquarters here yesterday, following a warning by the commission to reveal his identity, if he failed to do so by midnight.
The man, accompanied by three MACC officers, arrived at the Magistrate's Court at 9.30 am, but covered his face to avoid photographers taking his photograph.
He was represented by three lawyers, Datuk K. Kumaraendran, Datuk Joshua Kevin and JR Tey.
Last March 25, the Johor Sultan revealed that he was offered RM2 million by an individual to suggest a name to the Chief Secretary for a "Tan Sri" title from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
