The Cabinet Tuesday said it wanted serious attention be given to safety at recreational areas, especially those with waterfalls, to avoid untoward incidents.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim who disclosed this, said the measure was necessary in light of the latest tragic incident involving five family members from Puncak Alam, Selangor who drowned at the Belukar Bukit waterfall in Hulu Terengganu last Saturday.
"Warning signboards (at the waterfall areas) such as on the swift currents should be put up to curb visitors from going to a deeper area," she told reporters at a session revealing the ministry's and its agencies' achievements in 2015, here, Tuesday.
The victims were engineer and imam Abdul Halim Samian, 44, his wife Nurul Adila@Salawati Awang, 39, and their three daughters, Nurul Arifah, 16, Nurul Aina, 11, and Nurul Izah, 10.
The couple's nine-year-old son, Mohd Hasif, was the sole survivor in the incident as he helplessly watched his parents and sisters being sucked into the strong water currents.
Rohani conveyed her condolences to the victims' family and hoped the public could learn from this tragedy.
She also said that the security aspect should be enhanced at all public recreational areas.
