Cadbury Malaysia today have expressed their happiness with the statement released by the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) on Monday saying that no pig DNA had been detected in chocolates that had been tested from its factory.
According to its Managing Director, Sunil Sethi, while incidents such as this are unfortunate, the company is grateful to the relevant authorities for clearing up the air and explaining the matter to the public.
“We at Cadbury Malaysia are happy to confirm what we have believed all along – that the chocolates we make and sell in Malaysia are halal.
“We hope that future abnormalities in test results would be verified internally before making them public,” Sunil said.
On June 2, Jakim received test results from the Chemistry Department (JKM) which showed no traces of pig DNA detected in two samples of the affected products as claimed. They are:
i. Cadbury Dairy Milk Hazelnut with the batch number 200813M01HI2 and expiry date November 13, 2014; and
ii. Cadbury Dairy Milk Roast Almond with the batch number 221013N01RI1 and expiry date January 15, 2015.
JKM said the department had prioritise the testing on the two Cadbury product samples which had become a national issue following a media statement by the Director-General of the Ministry of Health (MOH) on May 24, 2014.
