The use of English in delivering Friday sermons must cover more mosques in Langkawi in line with its status as a tourist island, said Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) chief executive officer Datuk Azizan Noordin.
He said the use of English would enable tourists and foreign nationals who were not fluent in Malay to understand the contents of the sermons.
"Currently, I see only one or two mosques here using English to deliver sermons. I feel all the 'Ustaz' (religious teachers) can speak in English (to deliver the sermons)," he said during a function organised by LADA here.
He said there were already mosques in the country using English as a medium to deliver sermons and the same could be escalated in Langkawi. - BERNAMA
