Cameron Highlands still safe to visit - Homestay operator

One homestay owner, Nazri Ahmad said the mud flood incident does not affect the tourist area located at Tanah Rata and Brinchang and the district is deemed safe.

The distance between tourist area and Bertam Valley is about 10 to 18 kilometers.

"Since the news about the mud floods that hit Bertam Valley spread, about 50 percent of homestay bookings were cancelled.

"The incident happened in the agricultural and the local housing areas which is located far away from the tourist areas," he said.

Therefore, he asked the local media to help shed light on the matter to the public.

Nazri said, if the matter is not explained to the public, it will affect the homestay business and cause huges losses to operators as it did in October last year.

"Last year, several homestay operators were forced out of business after tourists to Cameron Highlands dwindled due to the misperception that Cameron Highlands was no longer a safe place to visit, " said Nazri.

Yesterday, the incident also submerged 20 houses in the Ringlet town, Ringlet New Village and Kampung Ulu Merah Ringlet while several vehicles were washed away.
