KEPALA BATAS:Less than 48 hours after getting his wish of meeting his former colleagues at the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters (IPD) fulfilled, cancer-stricken Corporal Azmi Kamarudin died at 12 pm today.
Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said he was informed of the sad news by his officer.
"Azmi died at 12 pm today...he leaves behind his wife, who is also a police corporal at the Seberang Perai Utara IPD, and children aged between four and nine," he said via via WhatsApp message.
Noorzainy described the late Azmi as a dedicated personnel who had always given his full commitment in carrying out his duties and responsibilities.
"Allah loves him more...we are relieved and grateful to be able to fulfil his final wish of meeting his old friends. Hope the family will remain strong in facing this ordeal," he said.
Yesterday, local media reported that Noorzainy and several personnel of the Seberang Perai Utara IPD paid Azmi a visit at his residence near Bertam here.
Azmi, 34, who hailed from Kampung Debak Betong, Sri Aman, Sarawak, began his career in the police force in November 2006.
He had served with the Kepala Batas police station under the Seberang Perai Utara IPD for more than 10 years before being transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department's Serious Crime unit of the state police contingent headquarters in 2017.
Azmi was diagnosed with jaw cancer in 2018 had undergone several treatment sessions including radiotherapy at the Penang Hospital.
His remains will be laid to rest at the Masjid Abdullah Fahim muslim cemetery here after the Asar prayer.
