CeIO programme draws international attention

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohamed said bodies such as the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authority (IAACA), Interpol and other enforcement agencies around Southeast Asia, have expressed their interest in participating in the programme.

"With the support of all parties we hope to extend this programme to international participants this year," he said at the CeIO certificate presentation by Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here on Friday.

The programme was developed three years ago aimed at certifying officers from the public and private sector organisations by the Certified Integrity Officers Recognition Board.

The role of these certified officers are to plan, implement and monitor the effectiveness of integrity programmes in their respective ministries, departments and agencies.

The officers go through a stringent selection process and are trained by the Corporate Integrity Development Centre under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy.

The total number of CeIO so far is 82 officers including the 58 certified today, under the third series of the programme.

"CeIO should be appointed directly under the Department Heads to ensure they carry out their role as change agents in the organisations," said Abu Kassim.

Based on a survey of the 22 CeIO first series, 18 officers have been placed in units related to integrity tasks, nine as integrity officers and four in unrelated positions, he said.
