The driver of a cement lorry died after his vehicle smashed into the back of a trailer in an accident in Jalan Bukit Bintang near Menara Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT), here on Saturday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Legal Staff officer DSP Shafie Daud, said the victim, Asri Hamid, 32, died at the scene after he was trapped in his seat in the 5.30pm incident.
"Early investigations found that the lorry driven by the victim smashed into the back of the trailer which stopped at the traffic junction in Jalan Bukit Bintang heading towards Jalan Imbi.
"As a result, the victim died at the scene and the cement lorry was badly damaged in the front," he told Bernama when contacted here on Saturday.
He said there were closed-circuit television sets at the traffic junction but no independent witnesses to the incident.
He said based on information from the employer, the victim was travelling to Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) project near Kampung Pandan to pick up concrete blocks.
"The employer has filed a police report while the family of the victim have been contacted.
"Both vehicles have been taken to the police station," he said, adding the driver of the trailer, an Indonesian, did not suffer any injuries.
The case was investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, head of the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operations Centre, Samsol Maarif Saibani said the victim was extricated at about 6.32pm.
Eleven members and two vehicles from the Hang Tuah and Pudu Fire and Rescue Stations were rushed to the scene of the incident as soon as the emergency call was received at 5.52pm.
