The skeletal remains of a mongoloid man who died hundreds of years ago were found by workers of a chalet who were digging in an area in Tanjung Pukas, Pulau Perhentian Besar, here, on Tuesday.

Besut district police chief, Supt Khaled Che Lah on Thursday said the workers also found a skull believed to be part of the skeleton while digging in the area on that day.

"The chalet workers lodged a report at the Pulau Perhentian police post at about 9am, a few hours after they found the skeletal remains and skull when they were digging a hole about 50 metres from the beach.

"The Forensics Department was then called to examine the skeleton and confirmed that the skeletal remains and skull were that of a man estimated to have been buried there for hundreds of years," he told reporters, here.

Khaled said further investigation showed there were no injuries on any part of the skeleton and skull, while the cause of death had not yet been determined.

He said samples of the skeletal bones and skull had been sent to Besut District Hospital together with other bone fragments believed to be parts of the toes, hands and face which were also found in the vicinity.
