Charred body found after fire at kongsi

The charred body of a man was found after a fire destroyed a 20-unit kongsi at a housing construction site in Persiaran Alif Harmoni near Taman Damansara Alif here Thursday, police said.

Johor Baharu Utara Police acting chief Supt Beh Eng Lai said the body had yet to be identified.

"The 20 units at the kongsi, each occupied by two workers, as well as a store for equipment were destroyed in the fire," he told Bernama.

Beh said the body was found by firemen from the Johor Fire and Rescue Department and sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here.

Sixteen firemen fought the blaze which occurred at 2.30 am.
