The charred body of a man, believed to be the son of a Tan Sri, was today found in a torched car in Lorong Setiabistari 2 in affluent Damansara Heights here.
The victim, believed to be in his 40’s, was found lying down on the driver’s seat.
Sri Hartamas Fire and Rescue Department chief, Rodzlan Othman, said they received a distress call from the security guard of the housing area around 10.30am informing them about a car that was on fire.
Rodzlan said his team arrived 10 minutes later. They managed to put out the fire but was shocked to find a man’s charred body in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Brickfields police chief, ACP Muhammad Azlee Abdullah, said based on the car’s chassis number, police had traced back the vehicle owner to be a local resident who resided in nearby Jalan Setiakasih.
Upon reaching the vehicle owner’s house, they were met by a ‘Tan Sri’ who claimed that his son drove the car.
The Tan Sri, who is in his 80’s, was once an adviser to a former Malaysian leader.
The Tan Sri also claimed that his son was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and was relying on medication.
Police forensics at the scene had yet to find any evidence of foul play.
A post-mortem and DNA test will be conducted to ascertain the victim’s identity.
