Charred remains of four found in burnt car that burst into flames after losing control

The charred remains of four unidentified people were found in a burnt car which was trapped under a trailer for more than 24 hours at Km 265.4 of the North South Expressway near Menora Tunnel.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the bodies were found inside a car that was burnt beyond recognition at about 11am under a trailer that had lost control and burst into flames on Thursday morning.
"This morning when a crane was lifting the burnt trailer at the accident scene, a car was found trapped under the trailer but the registration number of the car could not be identified yet," he told reporters at the scene, here today.
In the 1am incident on Thursday morning, a lorry caught fire after losing control and crashing
at the scene but though the trailer was 90 percent burnt, the driver and his assistant escaped with injuries.
"Flames from the burning trailer also spread and destroyed about 0.8 hectares along the road shoulder," he said.
According to Sum, the investigating officer and officials from PLUS who were deployed to the accident scene after the 1am accident, did not notice or realise that a car was involved.
Even the lorry driver and his assistant had stated in their report that the trailer lost control and not hit another vehicle, he said.
Sum said the charred remains were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem.
He said police were investigating whether a report lodged in Kuala Terengganu about a missing family was related to the charred remains found at the accident site.
"A report was received claiming a family on its way to Kuala Terengganu from Sungai Petani, Kedah have yet to reach the destination until today," he said.
