The badly-charred remains of a murder victim were found at the Ampang-Ulu Klang highway in Bukit Ampang this morning.
A passer-by stumbled on the remains which had sustained 100 per cent burns, at 10.45am before alerting the police.
The remains, on which were burnt pieces of clothing, were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary.
Initial police investigations revealed that the victim, whose sex had not been determined due to the extent of the burns, was killed and the body set ablaze using motor vehicle tyres.
Ampang Jaya police deputy chief Supt Mohd Nazri Nawawi said there was no identification document on the remains.
"There was smoke from the charred remains this morning, indicating that the victim was set ablaze shortly before a team of policemen arrived at the scene.
"Car tyres were used to torch the body as the police found pieces of burnt tyres," he told reporters here.
He urged those with missing relatives or friends to contact the Ampang Jaya police headquarters at tel: 03-42897222 or the nesrest police station to facilitate investigations.
