Che Hat to move into proper home after 13 years of living in shack

After 13 years of living in a self-built shack, Che Hat Jusoh can now breathe a sigh of relief as he is finally able to move in and enjoy the comfort of his new home provided by the state government, with the monthly rent to be borne by Baitulmal and Perak Islamic Religious Council and Malay Customs (MAIPk).

Unmarried Che Hat, 55, said he built the shack himself with used planks and plastics on his uncle’s land in Kampung Tanjung Lengkong, Bukit Bertam near Selama here and made only RM50 a day by doing odd jobs to make ends meet.

“I have always wanted to apply for assistance, but I do not have an identity card, I lost it during a flood in Malau, Kedah, 20 years ago. So, it was hard for me to make a formal application for assistance,” he said after receiving a visit by Perak Islamic Religious and Information committee chairman, Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin here, yesterday.

Also present were representatives from Baitulmal, MAIPk, National Registration Department and Social Welfare Department.

Mohd Akmal said, Che Hat will move into the new house located near the village today and will also get a replacement for his lost identity card.

The Selama assemblyman also called on community leaders and members to quickly report any problem faced by residents in their areas to enable immediate assistance. - BERNAMA
