Chef George Calombaris Visits Malaysia

On Monday, STYLE magazine had the pleasure of observing one of the ultimate chefs in the world cook up a storm in the kitchen. Chef George Calombaris of Masterchef Australia fame visited Malaysia to promote the new season of MasterChef Australia Season 6 and to have the opportunity to savour local delicacies. The show airs weeknights at 7pm and 11pm on Lifetime (Astro channel 709), and trust us when we say you don’t want to miss it!

Malaysian fans of the MasterChef Australia series voted for their favourite local dish that they would like Calombaris to eat while in Malaysia and the top three dishes presented to Calombaris for a ‘taste-off’ as voted by fans were Nasi Kerabu, Assam Laksa, and Penang Style Oyster Omelette. Calombaris wowed audiences and the press at Pullman Hotel as he started cooking his signature dish with an Asian twist, namely Poached Chicken with Miso Hummus and Green Mango Salad. “A simple and home styled dish” according to Calombaris.
Calombaris tried our local cuisine from Nasi Lemak, Popiah, Hokkein Mee, Lor Mee and even desserts like Cendol but his favourite dish is the ‘Rojak’. When he tasted Assam Laksa his response was that it had a “funky taste”, but we have to admit that it does have an acquired flavour.

“I don’t cook to feed people’s stomachs, I cook to feed people’s souls!” said Calombaris as he answered a couple of burning questions from the media. As a chef, Calombaris is inspired by his family and travelling. “I believe it’s the soul of the human being that puts the soul of the food on the plate!” Inspirational, down-to-earth and passionate about food, George Calombaris returned to Lifetime on 29 September with a new bunch of amazing amateur cooks.
