Chegubard charged for not notifying police about gathering
Rembau Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) division chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, was charged in the Sessions Court here today for failing to notify the police of a gathering in appreciation of Selangor constituents he had organised last month.
Badrul Hisham, 35, pleaded not guilty to the charge of failing to inform the Petaling Jaya District Police chief about the event 10 days before it was held, as is required by the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
He was charged with committing the offence at Padang Timur, Dataran Petaling Jaya, Jalan Timur, Petaling Jaya, near here, between 5 pm and midnight on May 23.
The Peaceful Assembly Act provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 upon conviction.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin proposed that Badrul Hisham be subjected to bail with one surety.
Badrul Hisham, who was not represented by a lawyer, sought a reasonable bail amount, saying that he had given his full cooperation during the investigation of the case.
However, Judge Yasmin Abdul Razak did not impose any bail.
The court set July 9 for mention of the case and for Badrul Hisham to appoint a lawyer
