Child found dead in rented room, mother, brother detained

The remand order until July 16 was issued by Lower Court Assistant Registrar Ahmad Shakib Ismail at the Segamat Magistrate's Court here at about 4.30pm today.

The 42-year-old woman, a single mother, and her 23-year-old son, believed to be a slow-learner, were brought to court wearing orange prison garb.

Yesterday, the victim was found dead by her mother, with several bruises on the back of her body and head, in the rented room on the third floor of a shoplot in Jalan Ros, near here at about 1am.

The victim was taken to the Segamat Hospital Emergency ward where she was pronounced dead.
