Chronology of students killed by falling goalposts in Malaysia

When 14-year-old Nik Mohd Lutfi Nik Kamaruddin died in the incident, it triggered a chain of reactions. The shock sent through the nation got many to question the safety of school equipment, and if adequate safety measures were in place.

It has also led to the government to timely remind schools to keep abreast of their safety and security protocols of their premises.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of similar fatalities in recent years:

Nik Mohd Lutfi Nik Kamaruddin, apparently slipped an fell in front of a goalpost in his school in Gua Musang, Kelantan, during a PE class in the morning. The 14-year-old died due to head injuries after the goalpost fell on him.

A Standard One student died after a goalpost fell and hit him while he was playing in a field near Taman Sri Wangsa, Jalan Parit Besar in Batu Pahat, Johor.

Ahmad Ilham Fikri Ahmad Zaki, 8, died due to head injury in the 6.30pm incident.

In Klang, 11-year-old Selangor, Muhammad Fakhrul Amid Abdul Rahman, 11, died of severe head injuries after being hit by a falling goalpost while playing football in the school field of SK Kampung Jawa 1.

The incident occurred around 6pm, and the Standard Five student suffered severe bleeding and cracked skull.

A child died in Pulau Pinang Hospital due to injuries after being hit by falling goalpost at a school field. The incident in Kepala Batas involved a Standard Two student from SK Kepala Batas.

In Sungai Petani, Kedah, a Year Four student died after being hit by a falling goalpost while playing at a field in SK Taman Sri Wang.

The incident occurred after school hours while the student was for his father to arrive.
