PARLIAMENT-ELECTIONS
Chua Jui Meng, PKR candidate in Segamat
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Johor president, Datuk Chua Jui Meng will be contesting in Segamat parliamentary seat.
That announcement was made by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat series tour at Tangkak, Johor last night.
This confirms that PKR and DAP will exchange seats between Segamat and Gelang Patah in the general election (GE).
Chua was said to have 'sulked' after Anwar announced that DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang will contest in Gelang Patah parliamentary seat.
The former MCA Vice President was not present when the announcement of Lim was made in conjunction with the 47th DAP anniversary celebration dinner was held in Johor Bahru last March 18.
After 'disappearing' for two weeks, Chua held a press conference last Friday to state his support for Kit Siang.
Meanwhile DAP candidate Pang Hok Liong who contested in the Segamat seat in 2008, will contest as an independent candidate if that seat was given to Chua.
During the Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat event, Anwar also announced PKR Johor vice president Hassan Karim as the candidate for Ledang parliament seat.
Hassan is the former Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) president, who had joined PKR after his motion for PRK to join Pakatan Rakyat was rejected during the 2009 congress.
Hassan is one founders of PRM after its president Dr Syed Husin Ali and his followers decided to join Parti Keadilan Nasional - the coalition that formed PKR later.
Anwar's announcement last night answered questions over the seats that PKR will be contesting after several seats were taken by DAP from the last general election.
Anwar also announced several PKR candidates for parliamentary seats in Johor - Onn Abu bakar (Sembrong), Dr. Ahmad Faidi (Pasir Gudang), Khuzzan Abu Bakar (Sri Gading) and Julailey Jemadi (Sekijang) in the same event.
Other PKR candidates include former army General (R) Tan Sri Md. Hashim Hussein (Johor Bahru), Steven Choong (Tebrau), Nor Hizwan Ahmad (Muar) and Datuk Idris Jauzi (Batu Pahat)
Prior to the event in Tangkak, Anwar gave a talk in Bukit Piatu, Melaka, where he announced that PKR Tangga Batu division head Rahim Ali will contest in Tangga Batu parliament. Rahim, 67, was a lecturer and headmaster.
Also PKR youth leader Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin will contest in Bukit Katil parliamentary seat.
