City folks hit by hailstones, flash floods

In the 6pm incident, the two events had caused massive traffic congestion and damaged several houses and buildings in the city.

Several major roads and areas which were reported to have been badly affected were Jalan Duta, Jalan Bangsar, Jalan Pantai Baru, Jalan Genting Klang, Middle Ring Road 2 (towards Bandar Tasik Selatan direction) and Taman Melati in Gombak.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had confirmed to have received 35 reports on fallen trees.

Its Enforcement Department director, Mustafa Mohd Nor said a rescue squad, comprising 82 members, and tow trucks were deployed to the affected locations for clearing and cleaning works, as well as for traffic control.

"Of the number, 50 personnel were assigned to control the traffic, 20 staff to rescue victims who were stranded (in the flash floods) and 12 workers manning the tow trucks," he said when contacted by Bernama, here this evening.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations Movement Centre chief, Samsol Maarif Saibani said a lamp post had fallen along the Sungai Besi Highway towards Bukit Jalil direction, causing traffic congestion in the area.

He said removal works on the fallen lamp post was being carried out at Press time and the police were controlling the traffic.

Meanwhile, city folks who were on their way home from work had also related their experiences by sharing pictures through social media.

Twitter user, 'faiqrusyaidie' posted 'first time ever experiencing hujan batu (hailstones)...'.

Another Twitter user, 'dayahmayah' also shared pictures and posted, 'MashaAllah (My God). hujan batu (hailstones) at my sister's office. Area Sg Besi. Praying and hoping that everyone's fine,'.

'First hujan batu experience ever. Literally soaked for almost 20 minutes,', wrote Twitter user 'FazaaMohamad'.
