City Hall emphasises on providing affordable housing in its Budget 2015

Kuala Lumpur City Hall will give priority to providing affordable houses to low-income families in the city in its Budget 2015, expected to be tabled in December.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said City Hall's priority would be to ensure these families get comfortable homes in the city.

He said so far, about 14,000 affordable homes had been approved for construction here.

"We will step up efforts to ensure as many as 50,000 units of affordable homes are built in Kuala Lumpur by 2020," he told reporters after visiting Quill City Mall in Jalan Sultan Ismail, here, Wednesday.

He was commenting on City Hall's plans in its Budget 2015 to provide assistance to the lower-income group.

Ahmad Phesal said City Hall would discuss with developers to provide more affordable homes in the federal capital.

"The plots of land which are newly acquired by City Hall will largely be meant for affordable housing for the needy. This is our way of assisting the low-income group in Kuala Lumpur," he said.
