Kuala Lumpur City Hall has allocated RM2.871 billion for its 2017 Budget, for the provision of city administration and maintenance services as well as for the well-being of 1.76 million city residents.

From the total, RM1.728 billion is for operating expenditure and RM1.143 billion for development.

The budget presented by Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, here, on Monday saw an increase of 14.6 percent or RM146.12 million for development.

A sum of RM205.9 million was also allocated to fund development projects under the 11th Malaysia Plan as well as RM2.1 million for National Key Result Area projects such as the construction of pedestrian bridges and covered pedestrian walkways.

Apart from that, Mhd Amin said RM176 million was allocated under the Greater KL (Kuala Lumpur)/KV (Klang Valley) programme for the River of Life, Greener KL, pedestrian network and global attraction projects.

City Hall has also allocated RM13.2 million for landscape beautification in preparation of the federal capital hosting the SEA Games.

Mhd Amin described City Hall's 2017 Budget as a balanced budget based on its capability to finance the operating and development expenditure despite the uncertain economic outlook.

"The plan for next year is based on City Hall's vision and mission to become the best city authority and to make Kuala Lumpur a world-class city by 2020," he said.

Mhd Amin said, considering the projected slow economic growth next year, City Hall did not propose to raise the assessment rates or review the valuation of properties in Kuala Lumpur. -- Bernama
