The Home Ministry is still investigating claims that 80 per cent of the enforcement officials at the Malaysia-Thailand border are involved in graft.

However, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi did not reject the possibility that such incidents occur among the authorities there.

But, he said, even the police, at this juncture, are unable to verify the claims.

“We are investigating the reports because it came from the PDRM special unit. For now we are verifying who is going to confirm the news,” he said at the ministry’s monthly meeting at Putrajaya today.

To date, eight enforcement officers were arrested and are being probed for allegedly being involved in the trafficking activities at the border.

Ahmad Zahid said, enforcement at the borders will be intensified with cooperation with the Malaysian Armed Forces and agencies under the Home Ministry.

In early May, Thailand police had found secret human-trafficking camps on their side of the border and dozens of shallow graves.

Thailand then launched a crackdown on human-smuggling following the discovery of its mass graves with Malaysia following suit.
