The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBNS) has denied claims that the flood situation is worsening in Long Busang, Belaga in Kapit Division.
JPBNS secretariat chief Major Ismail Mahedin said images of Long Busang inundated by flood that went viral in Facebook and other social media today was false as an inspection of the area was already conducted.
"Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong has contacted the JPBNS secretariat at 2.20pm and after he (Joseph) made an inspection of the area by helicopter, it was found that such claims were false," he said in a statement here today.
So far, he said, based on reports received from the operations room, the water level in Long Busang was receding and the armed forces would go there by boat to send the necessary aid.
He said the river trip by longboat from Bintulu to Long Busang takes eight hours while from Kapit to Long Busang is six hours. - BERNAMA
